Man’s best friend. Could there be a truer sentence in this world? Dogs are a gift from the heavens, sent to help us through our tough times by being a constant source of happiness and comfort. I, like many of you, have recently found wonderful dog to spend time with. His name is Archie, a wonderful golden retriever who is currently 7 months old. He’s an awesome little guy and has plenty of fun catching the tennis ball and going on any adventure with us.

This year for Halloween, we got him that adorable little lion’s mane that looks just too cute on golden retrievers. It’s pretty adorable. Allow me to recommend some of the best dog costumes for this year before it’s too late to get your furry friend something fun!

1. Lion’s Mane

Let’s start with our boy Archie first. This one does seem to do well with goldens because the fur blends in with the mane a little easier than others. However, this should absolutely not stop you from getting your dachshund one; I’ve seen more furious tiny dogs than Archie. The mane sells itself, either with a funny take on your super chill, non-aggressive dog, or it can represent their inner beast that they proudly display.

Archie, the very good boy.

Be warned, though: the mane we got wasn’t the best quality and its itchier than grandma’s homemade sweaters. He had it on for about 2 minutes before throwing his paws in the air and ripping it off. If you want to make this one work, make sure you see the reviews and note that the mane isn’t made from straight cactus hairs.

2. Ghost Doggy

This is essentially the best photo op your dog will take this year. This is a great costume if you’re looking for your dog to sport the outfit for a couple minutes, get some pictures, then ditch the costume until next year. It goes along the lines of costume creation from Charlie Brown and friends. You take a sheet, cut some holes for the eyes and snout, and you’re good to go. Not much to it, but it still looks adorable for the photos with the kids.

Very spooky!

For some extra cuteness, get your dog one of those cheap plastic pumpkin shaped buckets that kids can use for collecting Halloween candy. Teach hour dog to hold an item when it’s given to them. Put them in a sit command, give them the bucket to hold, and with the spooky ghost sheet, you’ve got some very scary trick or treaters!

3. Mailman

Now THIS is irony at its finest: pairing up the classic of all tails (pun intended): the dog vs. the intruding mailman. How many dogs have given their lives defending their home from the intruder looking to deliver some harmful documents to their owners? How many pups have saved their precious home from total annihilation that would have come from the mailman? Too many to count. And yet, we dress them up as their mortal enemy. And… I mean, it’s adorable. Truly.

Hehe

This is a great costume for the “running shot” that you’ll see on your social media platforms. You get your dog in another room, call their name, get low, and video them at dog eye level to see your handsome pup running towards you as a mailman. There are a couple different versions of this as well, but I would recommend getting one where it looks like your dog is holding a package. The way it moves when they’re in full sprint is just hilarious.

4. Hot Dog Vender and Hot Dog

If you saw our couple’s list for Halloween costumes, you’ll know that we don’t slack when it comes to dressing up with your significant other. If your S.O. is a four-legged little pup, then great news! I’ve got some pristine costume ideas for you.

This is my favorite one here.

Stay with me on this: a hot dog vender and a hot dog. Wouldn’t that be hilarious? Either of you needs to dress up in that classic white button up shirt, bow tie, and one of those vender’s hats you used to see in old cartoons. Put on an apron and you’ve got the perfect vender costume. The other simply needs to throw on a hot dog costume and all shall witness the greatest dup in Halloween history. Whether it’s you or your dog as the hot dog is entirely up to you, and to be honest, you cannot screw this one up. As in, it’s impossible to screw up—you’ll both look awesome, no matter what.

5. Harry Potter

As much as I hate to admit it (not being a huge HP fan), Harry Potter is here to stay. I don’t think any of those movies will ever not be running on some channel on TV. It is always there, watching, waiting for my poor mother to stumble on it to watch the last half of it because “nothing else is on”.

I am humble enough to say that a Harry Potter themed costume would be simply delightful. Splendid, even. Excellent, and other silly words that Harry says in that movie when Hermione does the leg work. I’m sorry, I’m getting off track here. Let me refocus.

I JUST DON’T UNDERSTAND how Krumm, the best seeker in the world, couldn’t get some girl his age to the dance. He had to ask a 14-year-old? What was he, 17? And one of the most popular dudes out there? Not only that, but ALSO in the tournament? Blows my mind.

This one is pretty legit!

Ok, I’m seriously done now. What costumes could you do with your friend? Well, just about anything as long as you have a button up shirt, a black robe, a scarf, and glasses. You could have your dog be Harry and you one of the supporting roles. You could both simply be wizards and/or witches. If you’re super clever you could probably bust your dog out in some Hedwig attire. That would be pretty nice!
