The weather is at its highest and that only means one thing – time to hit the pool! Swimming sure is fun but sometimes you need a little bit more excitement in your life. That's where pool games come in!

There are tons of great pool games out there but we've compiled a list of our favorites for you to enjoy this summer. Dive right in and have some fun!

Marco Polo

This is a great game for all ages and one that can be played in both small and large groups. One person is chosen to be "It" and they close their eyes and swim around the pool while counting to ten. The other players must also swim around but they must be very quiet so "It" can't find them. "It" then calls out "Marco Polo" and the other players must respond with "Polo." The game continues until "It" catches someone.

Sharks & Minnows

Sharks & Minnows is perfect for larger groups. Half of the players are sharks and the other half are minnows. The sharks line up at one end of the pool and the minnows line up at the other. When the game starts, the minnows have to swim to the other side without getting caught by a shark. If they do get caught, they become a shark too! The last minnow swimming is the winner.

Watermelon Seed Spitting Contest

This is a great game for those hot summer days when you just want to cool off. There is only one thing you need: a watermelon and some friends. Cut the watermelon into slices and then have everyone stand in a line. The objective of the game is to see who can spit their watermelon seed the farthest. The person with the longest spit wins!

Pool Hopscotch

Children will enjoy this game, but adults will also enjoy it! You'll need some floaties or noodles and some tape or chalk. Create a hopscotch board on the ground and place the floaties in each space. Players take turns jumping from one floaty to the next without touching the ground. If they succeed, they get a point! The player with the most points at the end wins.

Chicken fight

This is a hilarious game that is sure to get everyone laughing. Players pair up and hop on their partner's shoulders. Then, they try to knock each other off balance and into the water. The last chicken standing is the winner!

Pool Noodle Jousting

This is a fun game that can be played with two or more people. You'll need a couple of pool noodles for this one. Each player gets a noodle and they face each other in the pool. The object of the game is to knock your opponent off of their noodle using yours. It's all about who survives!

Underwater Obstacle Course

If you want to test your swimming abilities, this game is perfect for you. Set up a course of obstacles in your pool and then see who can swim through it the fastest. Put up a timer and keep track of everyone's times. The person with the fastest time wins This is a great way to add some excitement to your pool time!

Pool Basketball

This is a great game for those who love basketball. The only equipment you need is a basketball and a pool. The object of the game is to shoot the basketball into the pool. You can set up a net if you want but it's not necessary. You can also purchase a special pool basketball if you want. It's a race to see who can make the most baskets!

Water Balloon Toss

Summer days are perfect for this classic game. You’ll just need a bunch of water balloons and some friends. Divide into teams and line up on opposite sides of the pool. In this game, team members must toss the water balloon back and forth without dropping it. If you drop the balloon, your team is out! The last team standing wins.

Underwater Treasure Hunt

This is a great game for kids but can be enjoyed by adults as well. All you need is some coins or other small objects, and a stopwatch. A minute's time limit is set for gathering as many objects as possible. Drop the objects into the pool and then start the timer. Dive in and start collecting! The person with the most objects at the end of the minute wins.

Tips for Pool Safety When Playing Games

Now that you know some of our favorite pool games, it's important to remember to always stay safe when playing them. Here are a few tips to keep in mind:

Make sure there is always a lifeguard on duty when playing pool games

Lifeguards are trained to spot potential dangers and to rescue people if necessary. Having a lifeguard on duty will help to keep everyone safe.

Do not roughhouse

Games can sometimes get spirited but it's important to remember to not get too carried away. Be aware of your surroundings and of the people around you so that no one gets hurt.

Listen to the lifeguard's instructions

Lifeguards are there for a reason - to keep everyone safe! Make sure to listen to their instructions and follow them so that everyone can have a fun and safe time.

Never play alone

It's important to always have someone with you when playing in the pool. Not only will this help to keep you safe, but it's also more fun!

Be aware of your surroundings

This goes for both in and out of the pool. Pay attention to what's going on around you so that you can avoid potential hazards.

If you are not a strong swimmer, consider wearing a life jacket

This is especially important if you are playing games near the deep end of the pool. Wearing a life jacket will help to keep you safe in case you happen to fall in.

Conclusion

We hope you enjoyed our list of favorite pool games for summer. Pool games are a great way to beat the heat and have some fun this summer. Just remember to always stay safe when playing them!
