We are very much reminded of the many individuals in the world who may not be as lucky as ourselves. This happens most often during this joyous time of year as we reflect on how extraordinary and miraculous our lives indeed are.

Shaking off this feeling isn’t easy, but there’s a way. How, you might ask? The answer is simple – by giving back! And if you intend to perform a good deed this holiday season, here are some ideas of ways to give back this holiday!

Adopt a Family

Homeless or at-risk families must prioritize meeting their basic needs, such as food, housing, and transportation. As a result, they are unable to enjoy any gifts throughout the holiday season. But by supporting a needy family, you can play Santa and contribute to granting Christmas desires.

For children who wouldn't often receive presents for Christmas, prepare a box of treats or simple things we usually take for granted. Make their Christmas wishes come true by donating toys, gifts, and clothing.

Keep Vulnerable Friends and Neighbors In Mind

As the days become shorter and everyone gets ready for a holiday spent with friends and family, keep individuals around you in mind who might not have companions to reach out to. After all, someone's holiday spirit can be lifted by a casual chat over a cup of coffee and some handmade cookies.

Pay for a Stranger's Meal

The best deeds are frequently those that are unexpected and random. While buying in a drive-thru, tell the person at the window that you want to pay for the car behind you. Or, if you're dining out, you can politely ask your server if you could pay for the family's lunch at the table across from you.

This holds for coffee as well – the person waiting in line behind you is in for a big surprise when a stranger pays for their daily dose of cappuccino.

Organize a Charity Party

Do you enjoy entertaining friends and family for special events? Why not host a dinner party supporting a good cause and invite your friends to make donations!

Organize a get together this December, gather as much money as possible for a worthwhile cause, and give a toast to the holiday season.

You can also make invitations, decide on a donation amount, and plan a buffet filled with all your favorite treats. All in all, giving to a charity is a pretty good approach to improving your community.

Go for a Charity Bake Sale

There's a good reason why this approach is a classic. Bring delight your workplace with delectable holiday goodies and snacks while raising money, or go all out with the Christmas cookies, rocky road, gingerbread, and mince pies. Try reading up on cake sale baking techniques, then get an apron and start to work.

Support Local Businesses

The busiest time for many businesses is frequently around Christmas. During this festive period, you can help small local businesses by purchasing at locally owned, independent stores – you may discover some hidden treasures in the process!

Help Out at a Community Diner or Food Bank

Throughout the year, shelters could always use more volunteer help, but the holiday season is their busiest time. People require a warm environment and a hot meal as the weather grows cooler.

Depending on how active you are, you might be able to dedicate an entire day to volunteering. If you only have a few hours available, however, lend some time at any period of the day to assist in the kitchen.

Helping out to cook a meal, assisting with the setup, or cleaning can make a huge impact. You can look for chances to volunteer together as a family if that makes you feel more at ease.

Make Meals for People Who Work During Holidays

While many savor the time off from work over the holidays, some folks don't get the same luxury. Working long hours with little opportunity to spend time with loved ones is a barrier for emergency responders, law enforcement officers, fire crews, and even retail employees.

Bring these people lunches so they can celebrate the holidays at work. In addition to saving them money, the act of generosity itself will make being caught at work a little less miserable.

Get a New Pet

For more than 150 years, the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals has worked to prevent animal cruelty and neglect. The group is a pioneer in the country when it comes to saving animals, caring for their needs, and finding them homes.

This holiday season, you can surprise your family with a brand-new, absolutely adorable family member by adopting a pet and providing an animal in need with a safe home.

Express Your Concern

Are there any people you know who lost a loved one this festive period? A loss that occurs right before Christmas can be particularly painful since families or lone survivors must adjust to new family dynamics around Christmas. A phone call or a letter expressing your concern and support for the grieving may make all the difference.

Lend a Helping Hand

Whether it’s dropping by to see an elderly neighbor, cooking an extra meal for someone, or giving your babysitting services to a single mother having a hard time near your house, even the simplest acts of kindness can have a significant impact on someone's Christmas.

Conclusion

Here are just a few simple ideas to help you share this Christmas. These approaches require little to no effort, but make no mistake – these activities can strongly influence someone’s life.

Additionally, these simple efforts reinforce to your your kids the idea that Christmas is more than just receiving the newest and greatest toys; they also emphasize the importance of giving back and the joy that can result from doing so.
