Moms are the best. They really are. I couldn't think of atougher job that demands its employee to be on the clock 24/7. Nurturing, caring for, loving, entertaining, educating, teaching... I mean, these are justa few of the things that mothers do on a daily basis. At the GetOutPass,we want to be sure to give a big shoutout to all the mothers out there. Whereveryou are, whatever you’re doing, however little sleep you’re getting—you rock.

Whenever Mother’s Day starts rolling around, I can’t help butfeel a little nostalgic for the times I had with mine. I’m the youngest of five boys. I know, right? Five boys, and believe it or not, my mom had 3 siblings, all of whichwere also boys. I always wondered if she would have prepared myself, her youngest,to have been a girl. She’s told me time and time again that she is extremelyhappy that she has five sons. She’s awesome. She’s the most loving and caringperson I’ve ever known. She’s tough too, and she can throw a football betterthan most of my friends.

I am not a mother myself, nor do I think I will ever becomeone. My wife, on the other hand, certainly has plans to become a mother andSTAT. When the time comes, I have zero doubts that she will be an amazingmother, like her mother is. As your average man, I still probably do not yet comeclose to understanding the true love that mothers have.

The funny thing is that, despite knowing my mom pretty well,my brothers and I still struggle on what to get her every year on Mother’s Day.She doesn’t ask for much, like, ever. I once got her a gag gift for Christmasthat was a pair of socks that said, “Hit me baby one more wine.” She laughedand loved them. I was shocked at how easy going she is and how a simple giftwas all she needed. When I unveiled her real gift (a calendar with pictures ofthe family for every month), she was excited to be able to see pictures of herfamily every day.

That’s when it hit me! I’m not sure if this is true for allmothers, but I imagine many simply enjoy the quality time that they get tospend with family. Chocolates, flowers—they’re nice, for sure. But if I were toask my mom about some of her favorite memories and gifts, I’m not sure flowersand chocolates would make the top 100. It would likely be the times we spenttime with her as a family and did something easy and meaningful.

This Mother’s Day, I would suggest doing the same for your mother(or any mother that you love).

There are a ton of things that could be done that are easyand low cost. Take her on a nice picnic. Watch a favorite movie and cooksomething together. Do a puzzle together. Get the grandkids together and makeher a cheesy music video to her favorite song.

Get her something that will be a wonderful memory for therest of her life. I don’t know a single mom that wouldn’t want that.
